Racing ahead with Rosso Vivo Racing

The Monte Hospital recently inked a deal with Rosso Vivo Racing and as a result the classic racing Montecarlo of Geoff Ward will carry TMH decals and signage throughout the upcoming 2011 season. Geoff has been a TMH customer for many years and it makes perfect sense for us to race-prove many of our performance parts and accessories. Geoff will be entered in a wide variety of UK classic races during 2011 after a successful debut in 2010, running the Montecarlo which he prepared from a bare shell over a period of some five years.

We're very excited to be involved in this project and the Rosso Vivo Racing website will carry all sorts of information about Geoff's race program and his results as the season progresses. With a brand-new Guy Croft-prepared engine installed Geoff (along with TMH of course!) is currently looking at an optimum road/race exhaust system that will comfortably meet the low noise requirements now in force at some British circuits. Other joint projects will follow throughout the remainder of the year.

    Uprated Suspension Springs

We've just taken delivery of another batch of shiny new red suspension springs, these being the uprated variety which are 20% stiffer and one inch shorter than the regular items. We occasionally hear comments and questions about these springs, so just for the record here's the lowdown on what they will do for your car.

The standard Montecarlo springs have an uncompressed length of 289mm (11.5 inches) giving the car an overall height of 1190mm or around 46 inches. The ride height of the Scorpion was increased by 25.4mm (1 inch) to enable it to meet the Californian ride-height regulations and this was achieved by fitting longer springs. No other changes were made to the suspension specification and the truth is all Scorpions on standard US-specification springs ride an inch higher than the optimum that Pininfarina originally determined for our cars.

From early competition development work for the FIA 'Group 2' specification it was determined that a decrease in spring length actually improved the car's handling characteristics, provided the springs were also made stiffer. Our performance springs are thus in line with development work that was carried out when the cars were still current. They will lower a Montecarlo by 1 inch (and a Scorpion by 2 inches) whilst compensating for the decreased spring length by being 20% stiffer. They will give a significant improvement in handling and 'chuckability' (especially on a Scorpion) without sacrificing the basics of everyday performance.

    Colombo & Bariani Camshafts

Colombo & Bariani was founded in 1934 as a factory for the production of camshafts and gears. During over 60 years of activity, Colombo & Bariani has been supplying trademark leaders of the sports car sector including Abarth, Autodelta, Alfa-Lancia Corse, Osca-Maserati, Lamborghini and engines employed in Formula 1. Over the years, from a factory producing parts intended for the spare parts sector, the company has developed itself towards sporting applications by supporting teams during the evolution of rally and racing cars as well as developing camshafts for older cars. The outstanding experience gained in the course of decades means Colombo & Bariani are able to provide the best advice in research, design and choice of camshaft profiles related to every intended use. The latest software, digital machine tools, craftsmanlike care, consolidated working processes and a knowledge of all problems related to camshafts for road or track usage make of Colombo & Bariani the ideal choice for any need linked to camshaft applications.

TMH is now able to offer high-qualty Colombo & Bariani camshafts with a profile designed to maximise engine output without compromising driveability and tractability. Our pair of matched inlet and exhaust cams come complete with camwheels and are a direct replacement for the standard Montecarlo and Scorpion camshafts. Full details of timing and overlap are available on request.

    Inertia Safety Cut-Out Switch

Your Montecarlo or Scorpion is protected from a sudden drop in oil pressure as the start/run relays mounted in the engine bay monitor oil pressure and 'kill' the engine if the pressure falls dangerously low.

That's all very well, but in the event of an accident there's always a danger your engine will continue running, or worse the engine will stop but the fuel pump will continue to run.

This low-price inertia switch is designed to shut off an electric fuel pump in the event of an accident and thus minimise the risk of an ensuing fire. Simple to fit and an invaluable safety device, the unit has been designed to absorb all the stresses of 'normal' driving, detecting only the forces generated in an impact.

NOTE - this product is not suitable for series 2 Montecarlos with a mechanical fuel pump, though it can be used if the mechanical pump is replaced by one of our Airtex or Facet fuel pumps.

    Variable Rev Limiter

This new variable rev limiter is designed for contact breaker or electronic ignition systems and is thus suitable for all Montecarlos and Scorpions. The rev limit can be easily set by the user anywhere in the range from 5,200 to 10,000 rpm.

Fitting is simplicity itself as the unit operates by sensing ignition sparks generated by the coil, providing a 'soft' cut when the pre-determined limit is reached. Simply connect one wire to each terminal of the coil and a third to earth (ground) and that's it - job done!

Invaluable if you want to protect that expensively-rebuilt or tuned engine from missed gearshifts, loss of traction or an over-enthusiastic right foot.

Our precision engineering supplier has just shipped us another batch of side-draft inlet manifolds. These are perfect if you're planning to fit Weber 40 or 45 DCOE carburetters and they're equally good as a platform for other side-draft carbs or as the basis for a fuel injection system.

    Carburetter Pre-Heat Unions

Does your carburetter pre-heat union look anything like this?

Ours does, and it's clearly a potential weak spot in the cooling system. It's also the only cooling system pipe that we don't already re-manufacture, so we've decided it's time to complete the set.

We expect to have this part available in 6-8 weeks. If you are interested in purchasing one please let us know at sales@montehospital.com so we can gauge demand. And remember, the more of you who place orders the cheaper they will be!

New and Improved Strut Top Mounts

Now modified and improved. The rubber covers the entire centre of both sides of the metal part of the mount, not just the inside as the originals did. This will prevent the rubber from peeling out as easily. The metalwork is slightly thicker so it will not deform as easily. The mounting studs are slightly longer so that chassis strengthening plates can be used, and in most cases you will be able to double nut them. The entire rubber part has been re-evaluated. It will hold the parts that fit on either side slightly tighter AND the rubber is slightly firmer so the car will be more stable during normal use.

We are currently accepting advance orders with a 2-3 week lead time. (if you already have this part on order please reconfirm your order)

    Dashboard Support Frames

Now that our new GRP supplier is up to speed we are once again manufacturing dashboard support frames.
